When you’re asked to do a cake smash session for a pig… you don’t say no! Hank is a pretty special pig. He lives in the house with his family, though he does love to go outside (when it isn’t cold!) He loves snuggling in bed with his mom and his dog brother Chevy (you can see Hank’s mom and Chevy here), or when he’s outside, “helping” feed the chickens.

Hank is an American Mini Pig/Pot Bellied Pig. Right now he’s 35 pounds at a year old, but they can reach 150 pounds or more! His favorite snack is Smartfood popcorn- but as you can see he quite enjoyed his (piggy safe) cake! He certainly cleaned it up better than any human baby cake smash I’ve ever done! Pigs in general are very smart- and Hank knows commands like you’d expect from a dog. “Stay” isn’t his best commend yet (he’s still a baby!) but once there was cake involved, he wasn’t about to go anywhere!

I don’t consider myself a pet photographer, but as a family photographer pets are often included in my session. Cats seem to love getting involved in photo sessions that happen at home, and my clients often choose to bring their dogs for their family sessions as well. I love that animals bring an element of unpredictability to a session. My philosophy with them is essentially the same as children- I don’t ask for much posing, we follow their lead, and the #1 rule is we’re happy if they’re happy.

I hope you enjoy a little peek into the life of a pet pig, and find a moment to enjoy his happiness at getting to have a cake all to himself!
