This session was so special! Extended families are always fun, but this was a real treat. These 2 sisters had babies only a few months apart, and their entire families- their husbands, kids, and parents, for a total of 11 people (and 3 dogs!) were able to get together in one place. Instead of the more traditional family portraits, they wanted photos of their family just spending time together, having fun, and loving each other.
The second I walked in I knew they were a special group! They were so relaxed together, and immediately welcomed me. No one froze up in front of the camera, they went about what they were doing, snuggling babies, introducing cousins to each other, playing with the dogs, and even spontaneously breaking into song together!
One of the highlights was when we were trying to get an entire group shot- and that’s a lot of people to get together! We finally had everyone positioned and looking at the camera, when the 2 year old decided this was *his* big chance for a photo, and came and plopped down right in front of me on the table. I adore that shot of him with everyone laughing in the background!
This was such a special time- and really something so many families do when babies are born, but how often do we think to capture those moments? Where we reconnect with our parents through becoming parents ourselves, where we can celebrate with our siblings and see our kids meet their cousins (these 2 little ones have a very similar age gap to my son and his closest cousin so that hit home for me!), snuggle the nieces and nephews that may live far away that we don’t see often, and just enjoy our newly expanded families together in a totally relaxed atmosphere.
I hope these photos tell a beautiful and fun story that can be an example to prompt more families to do sessions like this!
