Mountain Laurel

I’m posting this post late, and back dating it. :) My sister and I made a photobook for Mom for her birthday. I’d really wanted to get a picture of Mountain Laurel for her (she’s named after it), and we wanted to put it on the cover. Mountain Laurel is *everywhere* in CT, I never imagined it’d be hard to find here! I eventually found some at the old entrance to DW Field Park, over by Westgate. People were probably wondering what the heck I was doing over there with a camera, but I got some great pictures! The one we ended up using is the one that says “Laurel” on it.

Calvary Cemetery 5/21/2011

Rob is at a conference for a few days, with the car. I was feeling stuck inside, so I decided to walk down to Dunkin Donuts and CVS, which takes me by the cemetery. Look how much it changed in just a month!

DW Field Park 5/13/2011

First shoot with my new camera! I had to do a lot of adjusting, but I’m really happy overall. And there were baby geese! A family with a bunch of babies. I was very thankful for my zoom lens, since the parents were NOT going to let us close to their babies. They even tried to cross the street at one point, a man and his son were trying to stop cars, but they must’ve decided it was too scary and went back. We saw the swan again, with all the geese and ducks at the usual spot. There was also one single grey goose- he was obnoxiously loud.

Tons of picture this time, I know, but I was just loving the camera!

I've been informed that he's a snow goose. He was all alone though.

DW Field Park 4/24/2011

Beautiful day for Easter! We decided to stop at DW on the way home from church, just to walk around for a while. The swan was right up at the front of the lake! It must be used to being fed, it was just cruising along checking out what was going on. I got some great shots of the Canada geese and ducks too, in the same spot as last time.

I went to DW Field Park for the first time today. Not sure how I went so long living here without going! It’s huge, and beautiful. I stopped at a few places around the lake and took some pictures- there’s one spot with parking where there were people feeding the ducks and geese. There was a swan way out in the middle of the lake too, but not close enough for a picture.
